An Ode to Being Good Enough
Am I good enough?
I like to think that I am,
But everybody says no!
They say you’re not good enough.
So I wake up every morning.
I look at myself in the mirror,
Not to admire,
But to point out every single flaw.
So I put on hoodies and blood blistering converse.
Cause I want to?, no, to hide my imperfections.
The imperfections they all criticize,
The imperfections that make me not good enough.
I scroll through my phone
Only to become more insecure than I already am,
As the hours, minutes and seconds pass by
Seeing the ideal height,
The ideal look,
The ideal personality,
The ideal person.
Then I look back at myself,
Too see that face.
The one that people judges,
The one that is and never will be good enough!
The insecurity, the sadness,
Taking over my mind.
Change your clothes,
Change your hair,
Change your personality,
Change EVERYTHING!
Until you don’t even recognize one bit of who you have become,
Trapped in a different body,
Trapped in a different mind,
In the same place and time,
But no longer the same person.
Society watches your every move,
Your every word,
Your every breath.
Its all too much to handle!
All this to fit in, to be good enough.
And to take it all off later that night.
And Not know who to be tomorrow,
Put on another hoodie,
Going to sleep with that empty feeling you have inside,
Always pretending to be someone your not.
So I ask myself,
Is it worth it?
Being societies standard, but to lose yourself.
To lose yourself in everything,
Every word you speak,
Every action you do,
And every breath you take.
Then sometimes at night I admire these imperfections.
I look out with all the emotions, and I see a light, so I put on some music,
And realize I’m good enough with all these bruises.
